The U.S. Mission to Pakistan has issued a security alert dated March 2, 2026, informing American citizens that the U.S. Consulate General in Peshawar has temporarily suspended operations effective immediately. The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad will continue to provide all routine and emergency consular services for U.S. citizens.
Due to continued disruptions and traffic diversions around the U.S. Consulates General in Karachi and Lahore, both offices have cancelled all appointments for U.S. visas and American Citizen Services scheduled for Tuesday, March 3. The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad is expected to resume normal consular operations on Tuesday, March 3.
The embassy further stated that it continues to limit movements of U.S. government personnel across Pakistan as a precautionary measure. U.S. citizens in the country have been advised to monitor local news and maintain heightened personal security awareness.
Actions advised for U.S. citizens include avoiding large public gatherings, reviewing personal security plans, monitoring local media and email for updates regarding appointments, keeping a low profile, carrying identification at all times, and cooperating with local authorities if required.
