Washington: Donald Trump said he expects a quick end to the ongoing war in Iran, even as some of his advisers privately urged him to consider an exit strategy amid rising oil prices and fears that a prolonged conflict could trigger political backlash.
Speaking to reporters in Florida on Monday, Trump said the military campaign was progressing faster than expected and suggested the conflict could end “very soon,” although he did not provide a clear timeline.
The remarks came as global energy markets reacted sharply to the fighting, with oil prices briefly surging above $100 per barrel due to concerns about disruptions to supplies from the Middle East.
Trump said the United States had already achieved significant military gains and was “way ahead of schedule,” but warned that the war would continue until Washington’s objectives were fully met.
Meanwhile, officials within the administration have reportedly raised concerns that a long conflict could damage public support and create economic pressure due to higher fuel prices.
Despite those concerns, the US president reiterated that Iran would face much stronger retaliation if it attempts to disrupt global oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a key passage for international energy trade.
