Iran’s leadership transition appears to be moving forward as the body responsible for selecting the country’s next supreme leader says it has reached a decision, though the name has not yet been made public.
According to Iran’s semi-official news agency ISNA, Mohsen Heydari, a member of the body tasked with choosing the leader and a representative from Khuzestan province, stated that the most suitable candidate has been approved by a majority of the members of the Assembly of Experts.
Another member of the body, Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri, also confirmed the development in a video shared by Iran’s Fars news agency. He said that a firm opinion reflecting the majority view of the Assembly has already been reached.
Despite these confirmations, authorities have not yet officially announced the name of the individual selected to become Iran’s next supreme leader. The delay in announcing the decision has led to speculation within political circles and among observers about who will ultimately assume the country’s highest leadership position.
The Assembly of Experts, a powerful clerical body, is constitutionally responsible for appointing and overseeing Iran’s supreme leader. Further details are expected once the official announcement is made.
