Marco Rubio has told several Arab foreign ministers that the ongoing war involving the United States, Israel and Iran could continue for several more weeks.
During the discussions, the US Secretary of State explained that the current military strategy is focused on destroying Iran’s missile launchers, missile stockpiles and weapons factories. Washington believes these facilities are central to Iran’s ability to carry out missile and drone attacks across the region.
Rubio reportedly told Arab officials that weakening Iran’s missile infrastructure is the main objective of the campaign, which he said could be achieved without deploying US ground forces. The United States has instead relied on airstrikes, naval operations and intelligence coordination with regional partners.
At the same time, Rubio emphasized that regime change is not officially the goal of the operation. However, he also suggested that Washington would prefer to see different leadership in Iran in the future, indicating political pressure on Tehran’s current system.
The comments come as the conflict continues to widen across the Middle East, with missile and drone attacks reported in several countries hosting US military assets. Diplomats say Arab governments are increasingly concerned that the war could destabilize the region if it continues for weeks or longer.
Analysts warn that the destruction of Iran’s missile network could significantly reduce its ability to strike regional targets, but it could also provoke further retaliation and deepen the conflict.
