Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei (born 8 September 1969) is an Iranian politician and cleric. He is the second eldest son of Ali Khamenei, the former supreme leader of Iran. Mojtaba Khamenei served in the Iran–Iraq War from 1987 to 1988 and is reported to have taken control of the Basij, which was involved in suppressing protests following the 2009 election.
He is considered the most influential of Khamenei’s sons and a potential successor to his father as Supreme Leader.
