Trita Parsi, executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, has argued that President Donald Trump is under increasing strain as he seeks to defend the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran.
In comments to Al Jazeera, Parsi said the president appears to be searching for a convincing narrative to justify the operation, particularly to his domestic supporters. He suggested that a prolonged conflict could carry serious political costs if public backing erodes.
Trump told the Daily Mail that the confrontation might continue for several weeks, a remark Parsi viewed as an effort to project determination toward Tehran while managing domestic expectations.
Parsi also claimed that Washington has explored the possibility of a ceasefire, but that Tehran has so far rejected overtures. He argued that Iranian leaders may interpret US urgency for a swift resolution as a sign of vulnerability, potentially hardening their negotiating position.
