An American military aerial refueling aircraft has gone down in Iraq and rescue operations are currently underway, according to the U.S. Central Command.
In a statement, the command said the aircraft was involved in operations related to the ongoing U.S. campaign against Iran. Officials clarified that the crash was not caused by hostile fire or friendly fire.
Search and rescue teams have been dispatched to the crash site, while authorities work to determine the condition of the crew and the cause of the incident.
The aircraft is believed to be an aerial refueling tanker used to support fighter jets and other military planes during long-range missions. U.S. officials say more information will be released as the rescue mission continues and an investigation into the crash begins.
