In a significant move to provide direct financial relief, Murad Ali Shah has launched an online portal allowing motorcycle owners across Sindh to register for a monthly fuel subsidy of Rs2,000. The chief minister personally demonstrated the registration process during the launch at Karachi, marking the official rollout of the scheme.
Citizens can apply on the portal by entering their CNIC number and bank account details, after which an automated confirmation is sent. Account holders at Sindh Bank will receive the subsidy within 24 hours, while holders of other banks will get the money within three days. Only motorcycles registered in the owner’s name are eligible, and each approved owner will receive Rs2,000 per month, roughly covering 20 litres of fuel. The initiative is part of a broader targeted subsidy framework aimed at promoting transparency, financial inclusion, and direct support for citizens.
The Sindh government has allocated Rs13.4 billion for the motorcycle subsidy and Rs14.3 billion per month for transport subsidies, which include support for around 11,000 private buses and 470 government buses. A fare stabilization fund of Rs3–4 billion has also been introduced, with strict warnings that any increase in fares will face strict action. To facilitate registrations and ensure compliance, the Rs500 transfer fee for motorcycles has been abolished, and excise offices across the province will remain open from 8:00 am to midnight, including weekends, for 15 days. Around 1,500 motorcycles have already been transferred to their rightful owners, and a dedicated helpline (021-111-374-634) has been set up to assist applicants.
In addition to the motorcycle subsidy, the provincial government announced a Rs3 billion program for small farmers and is working on mechanisms to extend direct relief to consumers on essential commodities such as flour and other food items. The government has also reached an agreement with transporters to maintain fares at February 28, 2026 levels despite rising fuel costs, with most trader and transporter associations agreeing to cooperate, ensuring millions of commuters benefit from the measures.
This digital registration and targeted subsidy initiative reflects Sindh’s commitment to delivering direct cash benefits efficiently, promoting financial inclusion, and providing relief to citizens amid rising fuel prices and economic challenges.
