ISLAMABAD, Feb. 28, 2026 — The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on Saturday issued a public advisory urging citizens to exercise caution while using social media and other digital platforms, citing the current highly sensitive geopolitical situation in the region.
The authority warned that sharing misleading, unverified, or inflammatory content could have serious legal consequences. Citizens were advised to ensure that any information they share comes from official and reliable sources before posting, forwarding, or uploading online.
“Given the prevailing sensitive national and regional circumstances, PTA calls on all citizens to act responsibly, avoid spreading rumors or fake news, and rely on verified information,” the statement said. “Irresponsible sharing can undermine public confidence and stability and may attract legal action.”
The advisory comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, following joint airstrikes by Israel and the United States on Iran, while Pakistan continues its military operations along the western border in response to reported aggression by the Afghan Taliban.
PTA emphasized that while social media can help raise public awareness, circulation of unverified or provocative content during such critical times could create confusion and panic. Citizens were urged to exercise restraint, maintain maturity, and uphold a strong sense of national responsibility to preserve stability.
The authority did not single out any specific platforms but reminded the public that careful and responsible online behavior is vital during periods of heightened national and regional sensitivity.
