Karachi: Leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) paid tribute to women across Pakistan and the world on the occasion of International Women’s Day, emphasizing the importance of women’s empowerment, equal opportunities, and social justice.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the party’s Women’s Wing Central President Faryal Talpur highlighted the crucial role women play in families, communities, and national development while addressing a gathering at Bilawal House.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari praised Pakistani women for their courage, resilience, and valuable contributions to society. He said that the true progress of a society can be measured by the respect, freedom, and opportunities it provides to its women.
The PPP chairman also recalled the historic legacy of Benazir Bhutto, the first female Prime Minister of the Islamic world, describing her as an enduring inspiration for future generations of women to break barriers and lead with courage.
Bilawal noted that the struggle for women’s rights is closely linked with the broader goals of democracy, equality, and social justice. He highlighted the PPP’s efforts to empower women by providing them leadership roles in government, including positions such as Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Foreign Minister.
He further said that PPP-led governments have introduced important legislation to protect women, including laws criminalizing workplace harassment and violence against women. In addition, he pointed out initiatives aimed at strengthening women economically, such as allocating land to landless women farmers.
Faryal Talpur also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to strengthening women’s participation in all sectors of society and ensuring that they receive equal rights and opportunities.
PPP leaders said the party would continue working to build a society where women can live with dignity, security, and equal access to education, employment, and leadership roles.
