Pakistan will hold a week-long Qur’an recitation event, “Mehfil-e-Shabeena,” at Faisal Mosque starting tonight, the Ministry of Religious Affairs announced.

The devotional gathering, scheduled from the 21st to the 27th night of Ramadan, will feature nightly recitations of four to five sections of the Qur’an. A special prayer will be offered on the 27th night following the completion of the entire Qur’an.

Renowned reciters, or qaris, have assembled in the capital to participate, and the event will be broadcast live on Pakistan Television and Radio Pakistan.

Mehfil-e-Shabeena is traditionally held during the final days of Ramadan, when Muslims devote late-night hours to prayers and Qur’an recitation. The last ten nights of the month are considered especially sacred, and one of the odd-numbered nights is believed to be the “Night of Power,” marking the revelation of the first Qur’anic verses to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Faisal Mosque, a national landmark, covers more than 54,000 square feet and can accommodate over 250,000 worshippers. Known for its modern tent-like design, it is the largest mosque in Pakistan and among the largest in the world.
