Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for proposing a so-called “hexagon of alliances” in and around the Middle East, warning that Islamabad remains alert to growing defense ties between India and Israel that could have regional security implications.
Netanyahu outlined the plan on Sunday, describing a bloc that could include Israel, India, Greece, Cyprus, and other unnamed Arab, African, and Asian states. According to Netanyahu, the grouping would collectively counter what he described as “radical” adversaries in the region, framing it as a counterbalance to perceived threats from both Shia and Sunni extremist networks.
The announcement coincided with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Israel this week, where Modi and Netanyahu are expected to discuss cooperation across science, technology, agriculture, water management, and defense sectors. Analysts see this alignment as part of India’s broader strategic partnership with Israel, which is also its largest arms supplier and second-largest trading partner in Asia after China.
Pakistan’s Response
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi told reporters that Pakistan “remains seized of the defense ties between Israel and India” and warned that certain military systems supplied by Israel to India may have already been used against Pakistan in the past.
“Yes, we remain cognizant of the risks posed by such cooperation,” Andrabi said. “We are alive to the threats they pose to our security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as to regional peace and stability.”
He added that Pakistan continues to maintain “robust military preparedness” to deter any potential aggression from hostile forces.
The remarks drew political reinforcement at home: the Senate of Pakistan unanimously passed a resolution on Tuesday condemning Netanyahu’s comments, calling them a threat to Muslim unity and regional stability. “We continue to condemn these provocative steps and statements by the leadership of the occupying power,” Andrabi said. “Attempts to divide the Muslim world along sectarian lines represent a nefarious design.”
