An important bridge connecting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain has been indefinitely closed to traffic amid rising fears of potential attacks linked to Iran, according to recent reports.
Authorities managing the King Fahd Causeway announced that traffic across the 25-kilometre-long bridge has been “suspended as a precautionary measure.” The decision comes amid concerns over possible Iranian strikes targeting Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.
The King Fahd Causeway serves as the only direct road link between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, making its closure a significant disruption for travel and trade between the two countries.
The move follows escalating tensions in the region after Donald Trump reportedly warned of potential strikes on Iran’s infrastructure, including bridges and power plants, unless the country reopens the strategic Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran has threatened “devastating” retaliation if its civilian infrastructure is attacked.
The Gulf region has already witnessed increased instability, with Iran reportedly launching retaliatory strikes following military actions by the United States and Israel.
Analysts warn that the closure of such a critical route signals growing security concerns and could further strain economic and diplomatic ties across the region.
