Islamabad: Four militants were killed during a counterterrorism operation carried out by the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department in eastern Dera Ghazi Khan, the Interior Ministry of Pakistan said on Monday.

The operation, conducted on Sunday, targeted militants associated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, also referred to by authorities as “Fitna Al-Khawarij” due to their involvement in attacks on civilians and law enforcement personnel.

Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s interior minister, commended the CTD personnel for their professionalism and said the operation helped foil the militants’ “nefarious designs.”

The TTP has long sought to enforce its strict interpretation of Islamic law across Pakistan and has carried out some of the deadliest attacks in the country over the past decade.

Pakistan has accused Afghanistan of providing sanctuary to TTP fighters and facilitating cross-border attacks, allegations that Kabul has repeatedly denied.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions between the two countries following clashes in late February, with both sides claiming significant losses in the ongoing cross-border conflict.
