Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, February 21, 2026: Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), has inaugurated the newly established Benazir Nashonuma Programme Facilitation Centre at Maulvi Ameer Shah Memorial Hospital. The inauguration marks a significant step in strengthening maternal and child nutrition services in the region.

The Benazir Nashonuma Programme, launched under the leadership of the Government of Pakistan and BISP, has already reached over 4 million women and children across the country. The programme focuses on providing essential nutrition services during the critical first 1,000 days of life—a period recognized globally as crucial for a child’s physical and cognitive development.

At the inauguration ceremony, Senator Rubina Khalid emphasized the importance of addressing malnutrition among mothers and children, stating that early nutritional support not only ensures healthy growth but also contributes to long-term societal development. “This centre will serve as a vital hub for the local population, offering guidance, support, and access to essential nutrition services,” she said.

The new facilitation centre at Maulvi Ameer Shah Memorial Hospital will provide a range of services including health monitoring, nutritional counseling, and supplementation. Officials highlighted that the centre aims to reach underserved communities, empowering women with knowledge and resources to safeguard their health and that of their children.

Representatives from BISP, local health authorities, and hospital staff attended the event, underscoring the collaborative approach of the initiative. The centre is expected to enhance the programme’s outreach in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and serve as a model for similar facilities nationwide.

The Benazir Nashonuma Programme continues to be a flagship initiative of BISP, aligning with national efforts to combat malnutrition and promote early childhood development across Pakistan.
