Each message retains the original sender’s name and timestamp, helping newcomers understand the context of earlier discussions.
All members of the group are notified when past messages are shared, maintaining transparency and preventing confusion. Admins also have the authority to completely disable the feature for their group if they choose, allowing them to maintain traditional chat rules where new members only see messages from the point they join.
The update will be available on both Android and iOS devices, and WhatsApp expects a global rollout over the coming weeks. Messages shared via this feature remain end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that WhatsApp’s strict privacy and security standards continue to protect all conversations.
This addition comes as part of WhatsApp’s broader efforts to enhance group management tools and user experience. By allowing newcomers to access relevant past messages, the platform aims to reduce misunderstandings and help new members quickly catch up on ongoing conversations.
